Fit Me

Yikes just writing the title scares me. I have decided to journal my experience on my journey to a more fit me. I realized after looking at a photo of myself recently that I have become extremely unhealthy. I discovered that the reason my ankles are aching at the end of the day and the reason my back is sore, the reason my body doesn’t move the way it used to, is because I have put on a significant amount of weight on the last while. I got busy caring for my family and not caring for myself.

Now I know this is a country living blog and that Chickens and Children are usually on the reading menu but I have discovered that this too fits here nicely… its life, life out in the country, away from the city gyms, and the conveniences of the well beaten path!

This is not about thin, this is not about unhealthy expectations, this is about being able to run and chase my children in the back yard. This is about standing on my feet all day cooking, cleaning, folding laundry (yes I do that sometimes) and not feeling the ache in my body at the end of the day. This is about my health, energy and feeling good about myself.

So what is to follow will be a series of posts journaling my exploration to a healthier me, you can still expect to see the regular ponderings, parenting, and country livin’ posts you have come to know. I will just also be incorporating thoughts on this new journey I am taking to a healthier more fit me!

I feel scared, how will I add one more aspect to my day, how will I manage to incorporate fitness and healthy eating into my day. All these challenges are to come, and something I am looking forward to working out!

I have the necessary tools, I have the knowledge as a former athlete, I have the equipment and I have a personal trainer to guide me.

So now it will be time to carve out time in my day to add in some fitness activities, healthy timely eating and find alternatives to wine Eeek!

  1. Thank you for sharing your fitness journey with us. Health and weight is something that I believe a lot of people struggle with and it’s always inspirational to watch someone progress to a healthy lifestyle. I am working on my own health journey as well, so when times get tough just remember..you’re not alone.

  3. Wellness can be quite a challenge and I relate to the struggle you’re sharing. I have found with many challenges in life (not just fitness) that the most daunting part is initiating the necessary change. Once you figure out how to accommodate, it becomes much easier! Best wishes in finding the changes that work best for you!

  4. I’ve start my healthy living last year at the beginning of the New Year, I gave up soft drinks and processed foods. Now I drink nothing water and make sure I exercise at least 1 hour a day.

  5. All the best! After 2 kids in the last 4 years I’ve just returned to the gym too. I’m doing a circuit class which forces me to finish once I start, and doesn’t take too long (hard to find time as a mum). It’s been great so far. I do my 35min min work out after the kids go to preschool for the day.

  6. First (and the biggest) step is to realize it and you’ve done it! Should be proud of yourself 🙂 I am going to get healthy with you! As recently because of ‘lack of time’ I wasn’t eating very well, and now my body shouts for fruits and veggies!

  7. I agree more with a healthy lifestyle overall as well. We focus more on scales which can lead to internal failures and disappointments. I love the goal being able to chase your children. A Healthy, heappy lifestyle is sustainable by eating right and doing activities that you love.

  8. From one country girl to another – you got this! Plus, I am glad that you specified children were on the READING menu… I thought maybe you came up with a totally different kind of blog post! LOL. I feel your frustration. I realized I had to get healthier when my son was riding horses. He wanted a water bottle. I was out of breath just walking 50 feet to the porch and back.

  9. Getting healthier is such a great goal! It’s also a tough one, but I suspect you’ve got what it takes! Just little steps each day. Getting healthier is a constant goal for me. For me, it’s one of those 2 steps forward and one step back kind of scenarios (those amazing food bloggers out there aren’t helping 😉 ) and sometimes it’s more of a complete backslide down a hill, but I’ll get there – and so will you 🙂

  13. I think fitness is a very appropriate topic for your blog. Especially since it does relate to your life with the children and chickens. I can identify with that fear, and the need to carve out time. And giving up wine? Oh my! That’s a tough one….

  14. Good for you! I’ve been on the fitness journey for a while, healthy eating and working out are key. I cut back on the wine, but I definitely still have a glass or 2 on weekends. How can moms survive without it? lol

  15. You put it realistically well. I just realized that I wanted to be fit not because of how I should look, but simply because of my own life’s daily physical requirements. I feel like all moms should read this post!

  16. I’m guilty of forgetting about myself too. I do this way more than I’d like to admit. I’m so happy that you’re recommitting to taking care of yourself.

  17. Putting your wellness goal into the universe is the first step to success! When I can’t fit exercise into my day I crank up the music and use every opportunity for a dance break. I dance while folding clothes, dance while cooking, dance while cleaning…you get the idea. It’s not the same as going to the gym, but it helps keep my body moving, active, and limber.
