Snow globe Snowman

Salt dough!

  1. 1c. Salt
  2. 2c. Flour
  3. 1c. Water

Mix ingredients together in bowl until formed dough!

• Feels like play dough!!

Create!

Snowmen

  1. Roll three balls for snow man parts
  2. Place separately on a cookie sheet in the oven for 20min at 215°                            • the balls will still be a little playable when you remove them!
  3. Use hot glue to stack and stick the balls together
  4. Add snowman parts! We used googly eyes, toothpicks, and rhinestone stickers but you could add whatever you like and use whatever materials you like!

Jars

  1. Glue (hot or white school) cotton to the inside of the mason jar lid
  2. Makes mixture of “snow” we used snowflake sequence and silver glitter, pour into mason jar!
  3. Glue snowman to the cotton “snow” lid and screw lid on, turn upside down and there you have it… Snow storm!!

Tip: a pinch of corn starch in the glitter will help it from sticking to everything and itself!

Realities!

Yup, kids try to eat the dough! But it’s  all food based so not a chemical  danger and salty flavour is not really appealing!

Yup it’s hot glue but I did the hot glue gun handling and the girls pushed the pieces together!

The girls loved building these today and I had so much fun doing it with them!!

Good day, time for an update!

dsc00952Well the cold weather has officially hit, the weather man keeps telling me it might warm up one more time but looking into the frost covered day I’m having a hard time
believing it!

img_0402The summer was such a busy one with so many adventures! Our garden was a huge success this year! We planted early enough to have a great crop of corn that we are img_3747still enjoying, potatoes that will last for months and so much fresh foods that I was able to can, pickle, and freeze what we need for the winter months! We are so lucky to have the space and the time to enjoy a large garden! I hope of course that next year we can keep working toward a weed free garden! We worked hard this year to keep the weeds down and they still managed to get away from us in the end but every year it’s better and better!

img_4831

We certainly were busy in the barn yard too this year with the addition of our baby pigs! With two sows farrowing this summer we now have 18 babies settled in their img_4216winter pen with lots of room to run, and food to eat!  And our Three sows have a boar with them now in their pen so we should be expecting another round of babies in the spring! This is the first year we haven’t done anything extravagant with our birds, in that we simply purchased a few new chickens at a spring sale and kept our flock small and manageable! I haven’t been over run by eggs this year which has been a nice change! Although with the cool weather the slow down has been a little too much and we’ve had to seek help with our egg supply from our neighbour until the ladies started laying again! We will plan to hatch out again this spring to replace some of the birds that are slowing down or not laying anymore, I think the kids are going to love the process and seeing the new babies!!

We did some camping this season too, the lake was beautiful, and camping at Moberly is always a treat! The girls got some much needed grandma and grandpa camping in without mom and dad, and Henry had some of his first camping adventures this year!

Steve and I managed to get some time in with each other too this summer… which of course can sometimes be a challenge with three young children! But with the help of our friends and family and some great babysitters we are so lucky to have we had a few fun adventures together!

We even got an old time drive in movie date in which was very fun! The movie was Grease so at one point we were watching the drive in movie scene at the drive in movie!

img_4769

Steve and I have a really great group of Friends too who we spend time with often! We have had a great many barbecues, nights out,and games nights!

img_0134We searched and searched this summer looking for a play structure that would last our family many years of play! I read a blog (I wish I could remember which so I could give it due credit) that hit the nail on the head, explaining how:

We as parents do not buy extravagant play structures and toys for our children really! They are for us, the parents!

Rightfully so after our back yard was img_0117set up for the kids to freely play, gardening and yard work became that much easier! The best part of the process was when Steve showed up at the sellers house (we purchased used from a bidding site on Facebook) they thought he would be there for days unsetting it, instead he loaded it on to a trailer with a picker truck and the kids were on it by the next day!

4 Days in the Wild and 100 Years in the Wild
img_2781

There are so many wonderful reasons I love living where we do and one of them most of all is our community! Everyone comes together for one another always and I don’t think I could want for a better place to raise our family!

And for 4 days (with the hard work and dedication of the entire team of volunteers) everyone comes together to participate in the Teepee Creek Stampede! This year marked the 100th anniversary of the rodeo and even the girls joined in on the calf scramble this year! My whole family was here mom, dad, and grandma traveled and camped out, it was great for everyone to experience the togetherness of this community first hand! Steve of course did a lot of volunteering again this year and it was great to have help from our friends and family to make it possible for the kids to participate and enjoy their time too! We are looking forward to next year as both Steve and I have taken on a greater roll with the organization this year!!

It really was a wonderful summer and fall and we are looking forward to next summer when we can head out and spend time in the sunshine again!

For now though we will enjoy the snowy weather and all the adventures to come!

Changing seasons

Fall is here! I’ve always had some discord with this season, I never could pinpoint why until last year when I felt no fall pressure and realized that my days since I was five were spent gearing up for the busiest time of year, school and sports began in the fall! I completed my own education and then moved in to a college education! When I wasn’t in school my self I supported children who were and coached athleats who’s busy time too began in the fall! Then when I finished my education I went on to work in the post secondary world where once again the busiest time of year was fall! I never truly appreciated the season and all its beauty! Then my daughters were born and my career path changed! Causing reason to pause as the cooler weather rolled in and I have now come to love this season! It is beautiful with all the color and fragrance! Tasty harvest meals are prepared that are only possible with the changing of the season! I can now take pause and breath in the cool crisp air, sit in the glow of the fire, or watch as the leaves fall from the trees! I know that in only a few short years fall will once again be the busiest time of year with my own children starting school! I only hope that when that time comes I can remember that there is so much beauty in this season and if only for a moment take pause in breathing it all in!

Enjoy the fall everyone, even if there is a little snow on the ground!!

Pigs

Happy Announcement!

One of our sows has farrowed and her babies have arrived happy healthy and so cute!

image

Of course they chose to arrive on a night where I had headed in to town for groceries. Steve sent me a picture from the barn while I was loading the cart up with necessities from the grocery store. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. By the time I arrived home our friends had already arrived too and were out in the barn! I headed right out and was so excited to see them! Referring to the Piglets – good to see friends too but they just aren’t as adorable! 😉

They were so tiny and still are. A few days have gone by since they arrived now as I write this post and they get more and more playful every day. They will all hang out in the barn for a while longer at least until they get a little bigger and then they will head outside for fresh air and fresh food. They are already interested in mom’s food!

Gert is such a great mommy pig and has taken such great care of her little ones. I know it is common to have issues with the pigs and their young but this has been a wonderful first go for us, all 7 babies are doing so well and she is always aware of where they are and who is in the pen! I can sit and watch them and she only warns me to stay back from her babies when I get close to the panel that separates us!

We are looking so forward to Sue having her babies next! – Update coming soon!

Sale Day

Sale Day

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 11.48.49 AM

We have made our way out to a few sales this year. They have been fun filled eventful days. Three children in tow makes for long days. Thank goodness for friends and family who join us for all our adventures, especially my sister who is always eager to come along for the festivities and to help out chasing a toddler or two around!

We headed out to a live auction sale with 6 birds and 4 dozen fertilized eggs at which we didn’t bid on anything ourselves so came home up! Sales are always a good time to sell there is never a shortage of people wanting to increase their current stock or try out something new, odd, or unusual! We have fallen in that category of sale shoppers in our past trips.

The other sale we went to was more of a farmers market style where everyone had booths set up selling their animals, and homemade stuff! We found some buff orpington chicks there as well as a couple other breeds we thought we should try out. I am really wanting to keep our chicken numbers down as we move into our pig farming venture but it will be nice to have some hardy birds who are also good layers around for incubating next spring as we need more, and maybe take to next years spring sales!

Both sales were extremely busy and because the spring animal sales in this area are so limited it was just a mess of people and animals. We had a lot of fun of course the girls ran and ran and checked out all the animals at least twice. Jordan was quite upset in fact that the animals were in cages and kennels and continuously attempted to set them free! Morgan is less excited about large crowds and only got down out of someones arms long enough to check out the animals but wanted to be carried where she could see what was happening for moving around! Henry slept through of course! They continue to show me how different they really are every time we do something new!
