Fit Me

DreamPlan Do (1).jpg

Yikes just writing the title scares me. I have decided to journal my experience on my journey to a more fit me. I realized after looking at a photo of myself recently that I have become extremely unhealthy. I discovered that the reason my ankles are aching at the end of the day and the reason my back is sore, the reason my body doesn’t move the way it used to, is because I have put on a significant amount of weight on the last while. I got busy caring for my family and not caring for myself.

Now I know this is a country living blog and that Chickens and Children are usually on the reading menu but I have discovered that this too fits here nicely… its life, life out in the country, away from the city gyms, and the conveniences of the well beaten path!

This is not about thin, this is not about unhealthy expectations, this is about being able to run and chase my children in the back yard. This is about standing on my feet all day cooking, cleaning, folding laundry (yes I do that sometimes) and not feeling the ache in my body at the end of the day. This is about my health, energy and feeling good about myself.

So what is to follow will be a series of posts journaling my exploration to a healthier me, you can still expect to see the regular ponderings, parenting, and country livin’ posts you have come to know. I will just also be incorporating thoughts on this new journey I am taking to a healthier more fit me!

I feel scared, how will I add one more aspect to my day, how will I manage to incorporate fitness and healthy eating into my day. All these challenges are to come, and something I am looking forward to working out!

I have the necessary tools, I have the knowledge as a former athlete, I have the equipment and I have a personal trainer to guide me.

So now it will be time to carve out time in my day to add in some fitness activities, healthy timely eating and find alternatives to wine Eeek!

Final Thoughts on Being a Minimalist!

.My House Looks Like I Lost at a Game Of Jumanji.jpg

Well that was hard!

So I have sat down now to reflect on the process of the minimalist challenge and came up with a few thoughts along the way.

For anyone who has checked out my latest VLOG over on my You Tube Channel you know that I have some new things coming out this week to help me accomplish the goals I originally but unknowingly set out to complete with the minimalist challenge.

I think that when I started the minimalist challenge I thought I was going to have a much less cluttered house. This did not happen! I think I would need to finish it over and over for a full year in order to remove all the junk from my house and I am just not up for a yearlong challenge like that!

If my math is correct (and for those who know me well know I don’t math) I rid my house of 600 things over the course of the 30 days. That’s a lot but it really didn’t seem to make a dent in the cluttered areas of my home. And it didn’t feel like any area specifically was cleaner than when I started.

The minimalist life style (although I admire those who can live it) is not exactly for us. We need stuff. I have three kids, we have activities, we have commitments, and we live a long way from “the store” like any store. I shop at Costco and buy in bulk whenever I can. We have two fridges and two big deep freezers because if I can, I attempt a once (maybe twice) a month grocery trip, outside of the food we grow and raise ourselves. I bring more things into my home than I could possibly remove at the same rate, and I just don’t see myself going to the extremes of living with less!

I think that was my flaw going into all this. I didn’t have respect for the lifestyle because it wasn’t the life style I was looking for as much as a purge. So purge I will do.

A Spring Clean of sorts. I feel if I set up the cleaning process within the purge I will accomplish more of what I thought I would get out of the original challenge.

So the goal will be to choose an area once a week (there are many to pick from) and clean it. Remove the crap, box up stuff to take to donation, throw out garbage, re organize, and clean an area all at once. I feel this process although it might take longer in the moment, will allow an entire area of my home to be cleaned up and feel less cluttered. Immediate gratification always feels better!

I will be filming, and talking about the process over on my VLOG so please click SUBSCRIBE over on my channel if you are interested in the updates. I wont be doing a continuous update here on this blog as I did with the minimalist challenge, I will be reserving this space for my writing rather than blogs with only click content!

So here is to a cleaner home and less clutter!

Viva Las Vegas

It has been years, I literally mean it years since my husband and I have taken a vacation! The last one the two of us took together, like on a plane and out of this country was back when we first said I love you! I know romantic right? On a beach in the moon light, right before his goofy self thought it a good idea to run out into the ocean fully clothed! ( the beach patrol would have thought better of this idea had they caught us) but nonetheless it was a beautiful vacation to Cuba (2009) with sun and sand and too many drinks to count!

And then…. Petslivestock, kids, a house, career changes, and too many life events to count happened. I wondered if we even liked traveling with each other?

My passport had expired before our wedding and I just never had a reason to renew it! Well this past December I finally did! We finally booked another holiday. Las Vegas for the national finals rodeo!

It was going to be a lot of work to make this holiday happen in December. It’s a little more to navigate when I’m planning child care, packing for all three kids, and myself, and making sure Christmas is all lined up! But all that work was worth the holiday!

Thanks to my awesome sister, child care was a breeze, and the easiest thing to figure out!… Not to mention my mom and dad making it work to help out getting the kids to my families annual Christmas dinner and gift exchange! The kids had a great time and were busy the whole time we were gone! I wonder still if they even knew we left!

Off we headed early early early in the morning … I mean I was up to get ready at 2:30am to make it to the airport on time!

IMG_5055.JPG

And then we were off! Napping most of the way there, I was happy we got there so early though! After checking into our hotel we were able to start walking! And we walked and walked and walked! I’m pretty certain that Steve can walk upwards of 10K/Hr Eeekk! We ate some great food saw some amazing performances, and gambled a little! I spent and lost a total of $6.00 I’m a big spender!! I wont go into the details of Steve’s gambling wins and losses!!

IMG_5086.JPG

I think the whole city was geared up for rodeo I didn’t turn a corner without seeing a cowboy hat or boots! We headed to south point to watch team roping!IMG_5092.JPG It was amazing! everything ran so smooth and each run flowed into the next the entertainment just kept going the whole event thru it was amazing and the cowboys, cowgirls, and their horses put on an amazing show!

We ate – after a long and sketchy walk in 3 inch heals (because I thought it was okay IMG_5124to get dressed up fancy one night!) thru a very questionable neighbourhood the first night there to the top of the world restaurant at the Stratosphere! Now the views were spectacular, the menu however was not as worth the journey. For the prices I expected a slightly broader menu choice and was not overly thrilled with the flavour. I certainly would recommend the experience of the rotating restaurant but perhaps for a drink and appetizer rather than the full meal.

Our Views from our room were amazing also, and so when we made the Journey back (in the right direction this time). After dinner we watched the fountain show at the Bellagio from the comfort of our room at the Flamingo, with my very sore feet elevated!IMG_5110.JPG

We checked out the bull fighters only event! IMG_5190.JPGThe way those bull fighters can move is phenomenal! The footwork was so impressive and the venue was so neat! An arena built up in a tent in a parking lot on the strip! The rollaway bleachers all made it so fun and exciting to be so close to the action!

The Main Event! IMG_5196.JPGWe were both super excited to attend the NFR, the entire show was run so well! It was IMG_5203.JPGsomething we would do again. The runs those cowboys and cowgirls make are so fast, and right up close like that just made it so thrilling. We were lucky to have a couple from Texas sitting behind us who were avid goers to the NFR and they were so great to visit with, and enjoy the show with!

We Checked out Cowboy Christmas at the Convention Center, where we could have spent days walking thru the vendor booths, spending way too much money. As it was we spent half a day there and by the end of the crowds and hike I was ready to put my feet up and enjoy a beverage or two! IMG_5281.JPG

We also checked out a  cirque du soleil IMG_5297.JPGshow too, “O” I’ve wanted to see it for quite some time now and I was so happy we went! It was spectacular, the athleticism of the

IMG_5310 performers was astonishing! The timing needed to put something like this on is miraculous! When I think about all the moving parts of this production and all the behind the scenes pieces that work together to put something of this magnitude together it just blows my mind! I highly recommend “O” if you are looking for a show to truly dazzle!

On our last night there we headed to Fremont street where we found this amazing little restaurant, Hugos Celler.IMG_5346 It was one of the best meals we had while we were there! Our meal was amazing and the service was amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough!

IMG_5349.JPGThe Street itself is such a fun experience. We toured around, had some frozen cocktails, and took in the overhead show!

Las Vegas was so much fun. I feel really lucky to have the support for my children in order for Steve and I to have taken such a fun holiday, and a much needed adult time out. I hope we will get some time again to vacation again, but it was nice to get home and snuggle my babies again!

Minimalist Challenge – Here We Go!

Screen Shot 2017-11-11 at 2.02.03 PM

This is the Minimalist Challenge by Livin’ the Country Life. I was invited a while back to be a part of a Facebook group doing the challenge, and to be frank it was terrifying then to think about the process of actually getting rid of things. So this got me to thinking that perhaps there was something there…

Maybe I should be looking at the idea of riding my life of things that I am no longer using, things I don’t need any more, and junk that not only do I not need but others likely don’t either. I often see something and think, “I’ll use this later, I should just put it downstairs and then when I need it ill have it.” Well this has lead to not much room left downstairs and other things that don’t make it to the basement get “organized” and then “reorganized” again and again in the space they exist in, never to actually be used! It has been a vicious cycle so I have hope that if I actually remove these things from my home in the form of garbage or donation that my living spaces will become less cluttered!

So here we go! Wish me luck and feel free to join me on my journey by posting comments here and over on my vlog letting me know how the process is going for you! OR if you have done this before and have tips let me know that too! I am expecting difficulty along the way but am optimistic.

*Disclaimer, the videos on my Vlog are a couple days delayed from filming day to post day because I wanted to allow for editing time (three little ones and all their activities leave me with some days where I just don’t have time to edit and post)

Welcome to Day one of the minimalist challenge  by Livin’ the Country Life.  The weather is getting cooler and so what better time to do some purging of things I don’t need anymore. You can follow along day-by-day over on my Vlog. I’ll post here too along the way to let you how the process is going. I am excited to get started and start to rid my house and life of clutter. I know I have more than enough stuff to get rid of. But I also know I have some pretty serious hoarding tendencies, as you will notice in my first video. So this challenge will get me going on the bigger issue of letting go of things and I hope it will allow me to live a less cluttered life!

Stay tuned for more!

Vlog

For anyone who is an avid reader of my blog you know that life sometimes gets away from me, and the updates and notes I would like to post more regularly just take some time to write! Life, Children, work, farm, renovations, family, events and adventures always take precedent over my sitting to write, as I believe they should. Steve has been off work for a few days now and that has allowed me some catch up time with my writing, but he is off to work again in the next few days! And my own fall commitments will pick up as well with volunteering, work, and children! And the children are all starting their fall activities tomorrow. Fall is our very busy time of year and although I don’t have children in school yet I imagine that it will hold true for the next 20 or so years at least! I don’t mind though, I love the fall and the hustle and bustle makes the cooling weather and impending snow more tolerable! That all being said I have decided to ad an additional component to my posts, and start my You tube channel. Country Livin’ on You Tube. I love to sit and write and plan to continue, but the day to days of our farm life and life as a momma of three little ones might be easier updated thru video broadcasts, and since I am not yet ready for live video broadcasting thru the many elements of social media I have decided to try it out! Ill post some of the videos here on my blog page but for all the videos and to keep up to date as they are posted hit subscribe on my channel.

Thanks for Tuning in!
